A year ago the Energies Du Futur team was At the United Nations in New York talking about the vision we had for clean energy projects in West Africa. Admittedly after we received the awards I remember thinking those powerful words, "A reputation can't be built on what you say you are going to do."
Well, belief and great people are powerful tools and we have been blessed with both, from the early days and the sage advice from trusted advisors such as Ian Telfer, David Emerson, Marie Lucie Morin, Brian Kerzner and General Lamine Cisse, to our group of investors who put their own money into the project, they too believed in the opportunity not only from a business perspective but from a desire to see positive social changes.
The town of Nguekokh where the project is based has seen explosive growth in the last 15 years going from a population of 8000 to over 40000 today. The town are equity partners and they have already seen the benefits from our project, to date EDF with the town has already:
Fixed the only ambulance which transports people to a neighboring town in emergencies
Organized and conducted a 48 hour clean up project of the city
Prepared solar solutions for a number of the public buildings
donated food for a large religious festival
hired locally for work during construction
Our own staff have also worked tirelessly on the project whether it is the Todd Walter and Don Neal at www.bpei.ca or Makha Camara and Katy Lo at www.edfutur.com all of them have strived for excellence and the progress of the project shows the fruits of their labour.
The first phase of construction is well underway and we look forward to looking back in another year and thinking wow did we really do all this in 2 years? I sure hope so.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
